PLAN YOUR VISIT TO THE ORCHARD
Want the freshest apples available? Pick them yourself! We have several acres of trees with more than twenty varieties of apples for you to pick.
Dress for Picking:
Flip flops and sandals are not appropriate. Instead, gear up with sturdy shoes or boots.Bring your sun screen and insect repellent just in case and consider a wide brim hat.
How to Pick
When picking your apples, be sure to hold them in the palm of your hand, rather than using your fingers. Pulling forcibly is likely to tear off the spur, where the next year's buds are already beginning to form. Picking is done by rolling or twisting the apple away from the fruit spur.
Do not climb into the trees or pull on the branches. Stay in marked rows that are currently picking.
BAKERY AND STORE
Taste some of our delicious, seasonal baked goods in the orchard bakery. Enjoy a selection of pies, cookies, cupcakes, crisp, and more! We also offer apple cider and seasonal produce. Our menu changes with the season, so check our our Facebook to see what is currently available.
Depending on the season, visitors may be able to enjoy a corn maze or pick other produce items such as berries or pumpkins. School tours are also available (see our events page). Please visit our Facebook to see what seasonal activities are happening at the orchard!
It all started when...
Joe is retired from a career in Ag Chem and I (Jill) stayed home and raised our 4 children.
We first fell in love with orchards while living in Michigan. Joe worked with some of the growers there and we loved to take our kids apple picking in the fall. After moving to North Carolina, we started a home orchard. We eventually had about 60 fruit and nut bearing trees in our yard.
We decided several years ago that we wanted to move back to the Midwest and “retire” on an apple orchard. In September of 2016, that dream came true. We purchased what was Apple Ridge Orchard just east of Ellsworth, WI and renamed it Rush River Orchard & Bakery.
We look forward to becoming a part of this community and getting to know the people who call this home. We also look forward to having our children, grandchildren, extended family and friends come help us have fun working and enjoying this orchard!
